Top 10 most influential cars of 2010 from Gavin Green

4GavinGreenNAIAS2010_carzpageThe industrial revolution did not end with the Victorians. It is now moving faster than ever before, not least in the car. 2010 probably saw more visionary production and concept cars a year, ever. Gavin Green picks up the Top 10 cars of the year.

1. Nissan Leaf
Electric cars are the future. And this is the first production EV (electric vehicle), which offers similar performance, price (ish) and practicality (ish) to a normal gasoline-petrol engine. But with the key advantages of EV (no stink, less CO2, no noise). The Journal is the first step: ECI is much better (and less fuel in the car-like architecture). But Nissan and its alliance partner Renault, jumped first. Will it sell? Hard to know. But what this car commercial success, his place is secure in history. Top 10 most influential cars of 2010 from Gavin Green.

2. Chevrolet Volt
The first ‘offer extended “electric car, most probably as influential as the leaf to make just about showroom in America. His back-up gasoline engine turns off the area and fear” always gets you home’. The downside is you’re around a usually redundant Astra carry four-piston engine. Future Range Extender is much smaller and more efficient petrol or diesel “range extending” engine (see Jaguar C-X75 below).

3. Renault Twizy
Another Renault-Nissan alliance eV, the Twizy new ground by taking a new urban transport services. It is small, light and fun, as much as four-wheeled motorcycle small cars.

4. Jaguar C-X75
Forget the fabulous style (if you can). The important thing is what’s underneath. Two compact jet turbines generate “back-up power when you need it. Most likely, the continuation of the Volt extended-range EV. Top 10 most influential cars of 2010 from Gavin Green.

5. Fiat 500 Twin Air
Electric vehicles – Range Extender, battery-only, fuel cells possible – may be the future. But there’s plenty of life in the gasoline engine still. The new Twin Air sedan, of which small car champion at Fiat, a lot of fun features with astonishing economy, plus clever fuel-saving technologies such as start-stop rain and brakes.

6. Mazda “Sky” engines
Soon matches (start sales next year) on most small Mazda. Another “new generation” engine, a preview to journalists this year, provides amazing improvements in the economy and energy, both in petrol and diesel variants.

7. Porsche 918 Spyder
90mpg capability equivalent to 200 mph. Although not at the same time.

8. Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
The guys are all fat diets – because weight reduction will matter tomorrow, as much as fuel-efficient engines. This concept of carbon Lamborghini – the wheels and exhaust are carbon fiber – presents the new, light philosophy and does it with style.

9. Italia Ferrari 458
Because of course one of the all-time great Ferrari to celebrate. Moreover, it is proof that super sports car is getting better and better.

10. Ford Focus
The new (for sale early next year) is the closest thing to a true “world car” and it is the follow-up to one of the greatest cars of the past ten years. The focus also helped save Ford from bankruptcy (a fate that neither GM nor Chrysler could be avoided). The latest to be sold from London to Los Angeles, from Sydney, Shanghai is a sign of the converging tastes of global drivers. Top 10 most influential cars of 2010 from Gavin Green.

Coupe Mini Paceman Concept 2011 Facelifted Review

MiniPacemanConcept01_carzpage_2010These are the first official pictures of the Mini’s not so mini Paceman Concept. Mini calls it a Sports Activity Coupé (SAC), but really it is only a two-door Countryman’s. And as CAR way back in April 2009, a second sportier version of the largest model Mini is on the way revealed: the Paceman will almost certainly reach production. Coupe Mini Paceman Concept 2011 Facelifted Review.
The Mini Concept Paceman looks rather large and bulky for a coupe. What’s going on under the skin?

The four-seater Paceman is based on the Countryman, but it is 20mm lower and 13mm longer – the Paceman is 4110mm long, 1789mm wide and 1541mm high, while the Countryman 4097/1789/1561mm measures. Coupe Mini Paceman Concept 2011 Facelifted Review.

MiniPacemanConcept02_carzpageA John Cooper Works-spec 1.6-liter turbo engine delivers 208bhp Paceman concept and £ 192 m away, with an overboost function, bumping torque by up to 207 pounds Paceman ft. The concept is a permanent four-wheel-drive, with an electromagnetic locking center differential to 100% of the power to the rear wheels to send in extreme cases.

The design drawings show a typical mini interior, if mounted with champagne glasses on the Mini Cenre rail and a removable front passenger seat, a fund that can stretch their legs.
The Mini Concept Paceman looks normal on the inside, but what is outside?

Have you ever thought brown leather-clad door handles and gas cap with a piece of leather dangling from it? Well, if you have, could be the mini Paceman the car for you.Coupe Mini Paceman Concept 2011 Facelifted Review.

MiniPacemanConcept06_carzpage_2011Ignore the nonsense concept car, and you will see that the Paceman drops a few hints on the future of Mini’s direction. The front end features of the traditional family face, but there is a deviation from the norm on the back was. The new tail lights stretching around the corners of his car on the top of the wheel arches, and the high-set position and the relatively flat rear window give the Paceman a very wide and bulky rear.

The Mini Concept Paceman his first public appearance at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 10 to 23 to take place in January, and CAR will keep you up-to-date with the latest news.

Electric Nissan Leaf wins Car of the Year 2010

2010_1NissanLeaffirstdrive_carzpageAs we all know that the world’s first mass produced battery electric car Nissan Leaf have won the premier European award.
Nissan electric vehicle Leaf won the European Car of the Year Award by a clear margin of nine points.

2NissanLeaffirstdrive-carzpage_2010The five-door hatchback family £ 23,990 goes on sale in March in the UK and the first time a mass-produced all-electric car on sale to the public. Electric Nissan Leaf wins Car of the Year 2010.

The Leaf won 257 votes out of the 58 judges in 23 European countries. Alfa Romeo Giulietta’s was second with 248 points, Vauxhall Meriva in the third with 244 points and Ford C-Max fifth with 224th.
World’s first practical production of affordable electric car that does not look like it is and designed by a child with a crayon and driven by Noddy. The Nissan Leaf not an exciting car. But it is an important one. If it sells – and Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is betting his company’s future on it – this can be a mini / T-model moment. Game Changer are not released very often. Electric Nissan Leaf wins Car of the Year 2010.

The Journal goes on sale early next year, and as long as David Cameron to give rubber-stamp Lord Mandelson is coming European production of Sunderland from 2013 (and from Japan by then). In contrast to the G-Wiz and other similarly ridiculous electric scooter, this is not a “four-wheeled motor vehicle” that bypasses all security (and common sense). It’s a real car that all golf-size gasoline engine safety expectations, seats five, and looks like a “real” car. Nissan made specifically look it “normal”, alluding to unconventionality (notice the sleek TGV-like nose), but always, Dan Dare. This is a mass-produced Nissan, after all, and expects that mass appeal.
