A dozen electric cars from the Renault-Nissan Alliance highlighted the benefits of green transportation and provided a zero-emission shuttle services for delegates at the 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, Nov. 28-Dec. 9. The 17th annual Conference of Parties (better known as COP17) aims to “stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations at a level that will prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system.”

The highly acclaimed Nissan LEAF and the Renault Fluence ZE, two of the most affordable zero-emission cars ever produced, were on the streets as shuttles for COP17 delegates. They are also available for test drives.

The Alliance also offers one of the first public test drives in the Renault Twizy, a fun-to-drive commuter vehicle that can be plugged into many conventional wall sockets.

Electric vehicles, which can be charged from purely renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, will play a critical role in achieving COP17’s goals and reducing the impact of climate change.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance is the world leader in electric-vehicle technology and the only car group worldwide offering a range of vehicles that consume no gasoline whatsoever. The Renault-Nissan Alliance plans to sell 1.5 million zero-emission cars by 2016.

Nissan has already sold more than 20,000 LEAFs on three continents, making it the most popular EV in the world. Renault has just begun selling the Kangoo ZE minivan. The Fluence ZE family sedan will go on sale shortly followed by the Twizy urban 2-seater, and the ZOE compact hatchback next year.

South Africa aims to become the continent’s leader in clean-energy generation. The country hopes to build one of the world’s biggest solar power plants – an ambitious effort that would increase access to electricity while simultaneously reducing the region’s dependence on fossil fuels. Giant mirrors and solar panels would dot the Northern Cape province, which ranks in the sunniest 3 percent of regions worldwide.

“Like many nations, South Africa understands the imperative of a clean energy grid and how zero-emission cars fit into a greener energy ecosystem,” said Hideaki Watanabe, Corporate Vice President of the Zero Emission Business Unit at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Renault-Nissan Alliance Managing Director, Zero Emission Business. “The Renault-Nissan Alliance applauds what South Africa and all the nations represented at COP17 are doing to reduce the threat to our environment and standard of living due to global warming.”

Nissan has announced plans to launch Nissan LEAF to South Africa in 2013, subject to the successful conclusion of discussions between the government and the motor industry regarding the introduction of customer incentives and a recharging infrastructure.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Nissan LEAF is the current European and World Car of the Year. More than 18,000 units have been delivered since sales began at the end of 2010, making it the most successful EV of all time. The car is currently sold in Japan, North America and many countries in Europe including Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, the UK, Norway, Ireland and the Netherlands. Nissan LEAF is the first of four EVs planned by Nissan and Infiniti.

By the end of the year, Renault will have two EVs on sale in Europe with two more due in 2012. The Renault Kangoo Z.E. van went on sale in Europe in October and has already generated more than 15,000 fleet orders in France. Sales of Fluence Z.E, a luxury family sedan, are due to start shortly. The distinctive Renault Twizy and compact Renault ZOE will arrive in showrooms in 2012.

Nissan GT-R (2012): What’s new?

The word “entertaining” is what the GT-R is a machine such Marmite. Many people see it has a super-sophisticated all-wheel drive system, a transmission efficiency minimum-input/maximum and read the improbable acceleration numbers and lap times and take on this GT-R is everything quickly and without participation; a car that needs no skill and offers no reward other than bragging pub. More power to persuade is never that vocal group that the GT-R is a real hero car and a dazzling experience.

The cold, hard facts are that this 2012 GT-R was ground in each area: for the first time since its introduction, the GT-R 3.8-liter V6 twin-turbo engine is mechanical and not just by a new configured ECU and uprated exhaust package.

All in the name of more throttle response and more power the higher rev range – it has heads, sodium filled valves, new, a revised intake system revised.

The shocks have new programming language, the springs are revised, the transmission shifts more quickly and cleanly, the end wall is structurally stiffer … The GT-R has even different spring rates and rear suspension geometry from one side to the other to the driver’s weight into account. It is a typically meticulous job of chief engineer of the GT-R, Mizuno-san and his team of GT-R possessed.

What is the new 2012 GT-R like to drive?

Oddly enough, when we drove the car on Silverstone “National” circuit layout, Nissan would not reveal how much more power it was under that hood bubbling. However, they have now released the new figures of 542bhp at 6400rpm and 466 pounds feet released on 3200-5800rpm (the 2011 GT-R has 530bhp ft and £ 451).

The price is still unconfirmed, but we would expect an increase of £ 71,950 and £ 75,000 more. That’s a lot of money for a Nissan, but not a huge amount for a car that goes from 0-60mph in under 3 seconds launched and met 199 (ish) miles per hour. Nissan also offers a track package for the GT-R, which remove lighter wheels from the SpecV, stiffer suspension, a rear seat (plus a new and effective material for the fronts) and a new front splitter made of carbon that channels air to the Disc brakes and apparently reduces temperature by about 100deg under hard use. This is still ‘examined’ for the UK market, but will almost certainly be offered.
Nissan GT-R: check bit

We drove a standard 2012 model, and it was absolutely brilliant. Silverstone is moist and the GT-R is so fast that you all want security, you can get. It delivers excellent grip and traction, but boy, it keeps you on your toes. The unique four-wheel drive system, the power back to steering transaxle and then redirects to a separate drive shaft when demand is set for agility and to limit flow, but that means it is more likely to oversteer than understeer in greasy conditions and with 1700 + kg slips need to do something constructive.

Freeze now, and – like any other car – you’re in the Armco or the pampas. The GT-R huge subpoena power and grip, but you are ultimately responsible for the anger. So its done.

Fortunately, the GT-R is giving you all the tools to stay one step ahead of the crazy action. The engine has tremendous torque and a newfound focus on the upper end of the six-speed gearbox is completely seamless in terms of speed (it’s still a bit clunky when maneuvering around a snail’s pace) and the steering is precise and full of feeling. It is also wonderful on the adjustable brake so that you can set up the car before a corner and go through them as you wish.
Does the 2012 Nissan GT-R feel different enough?

Yes: The engine responds clean, there is a new appetite for the way it’s speed limiter of the chassis more fluid and all-wheel drive works with more subtlety, and there is less space when braking. These are nuances – at least on this limited first drive – but they are tangible. It is more the same, of course.
Verdict

The comprehensive revision of 2012 will not be won over the skeptics, but let’s do not worry and instead celebrate an incredible, wonderful, exciting and really super sports car that requires, as a raw chicken sashimi and Japanese as much respect. I love it.

Renault is showing off their latest whacky concept at the Geneva Motor Show – the MPEG2.

The MPEG2 is a small crossover which could hint at the possible future views of competition to the Nissan Juke.
It is the second a series of concepts of Renault, after the Dezir. There are six in a row that says the company, is based around a theme of ‘Circle of Life’. Was the Dezir represent love, drop the MPEG2 on “two people, exploring the world around you” should be while.

The concept is different to anything in the current Renault range, with sweeping curves on front and rear, especially around the front flanks and rear Wheelarches wild. Nose bears a strong resemblance to the Dezir’s holding back some similarities to the latest Megane in some routes.

Renault says the concept should be mobile, and it contains a 158bhp twin turbo diesel engine, which should provide emissions of 99 g / km. It is paired with an EDC dual clutch automatic transmission, although it is unlikely that it would get far on the huge 22-inch wheels.

Although Renault says there is no chance, the MPEG2 make it production, Nissan is transferred to a possible rival some styling cues Juke, that could make the production as early as 2013.
