Electric Nissan Leaf wins Car of the Year 2010

2010_1NissanLeaffirstdrive_carzpageAs we all know that the world’s first mass produced battery electric car Nissan Leaf have won the premier European award.
Nissan electric vehicle Leaf won the European Car of the Year Award by a clear margin of nine points.

2NissanLeaffirstdrive-carzpage_2010The five-door hatchback family £ 23,990 goes on sale in March in the UK and the first time a mass-produced all-electric car on sale to the public. Electric Nissan Leaf wins Car of the Year 2010.

The Leaf won 257 votes out of the 58 judges in 23 European countries. Alfa Romeo Giulietta’s was second with 248 points, Vauxhall Meriva in the third with 244 points and Ford C-Max fifth with 224th.
World’s first practical production of affordable electric car that does not look like it is and designed by a child with a crayon and driven by Noddy. The Nissan Leaf not an exciting car. But it is an important one. If it sells – and Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is betting his company’s future on it – this can be a mini / T-model moment. Game Changer are not released very often. Electric Nissan Leaf wins Car of the Year 2010.

The Journal goes on sale early next year, and as long as David Cameron to give rubber-stamp Lord Mandelson is coming European production of Sunderland from 2013 (and from Japan by then). In contrast to the G-Wiz and other similarly ridiculous electric scooter, this is not a “four-wheeled motor vehicle” that bypasses all security (and common sense). It’s a real car that all golf-size gasoline engine safety expectations, seats five, and looks like a “real” car. Nissan made specifically look it “normal”, alluding to unconventionality (notice the sleek TGV-like nose), but always, Dan Dare. This is a mass-produced Nissan, after all, and expects that mass appeal.

KING of Electric: Mitsubishi electric i MiEV

Mitsubishi electric i MiEV

Price starting from: £15,000 (est)

On Sale: Winter

Why so Great ? Zero exhaust emissions

Mitsubishi UK is pushing hard to get its hands on 200 of the first all-electric i MiEV cars this year.

The i MiEV will initially go on sale in Japan, but since the UK is also a right-hand-drive market, we could steal a march on the rest of Europe, which wont get the car untill 2010.

The plan is for the UK to get 10% of the initial 2000-strong production run late in the year.

With an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery, the car has a top speed of just over 85 mph and a 90- mile range. It takes seven hours to recharge fully.

There are no local emissions at all, while on a ‘well-to-wheel’ basis, taking into account the CO2 released in the production of the electricity the i MiEV uses, Mitsubishi reckons it emits just 41g/km – far less than the 145g/km of the petrol car it’s based on.

Here are our Mitsubishi electric i MiEV Review – (City Cars and Superminis) STAR CARS 2009 Series , again want to say something? Just shout it out here. We are happy that if you can leave a comment below. Next STAR Cars will be Nissan Pixo 2009, look forward to see it? Welcome back to check it out in a short period.

Saving the world – the Lightning GT

There’s a company in Great Britain that set its mind on manufacturing a sports car for the hard core tree huggers. That company called ADN they want to make an electric car. Even though they started with a bunch of big ambitions and very little time it seems that the impossible has been achieved:a super sport car with ZERO CO2 emissions. It will be called the Lightning GT and promises great performance, excellent handling and a big kiss from the Earth.

Lightning GT

With its 4 electric engines that together develop 700 HP squeezed from powerful batteries, the GT reaches 100 km/h in 4 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.It has to be said that there will also be a version with 650 HP.

OK,we’ve seen the nice side but about every electric car’s nightmare: mileage? The manufacturer says that after 10 minutes on the plug you can eat about 400 km of road which is amazing.

The first car will reach the market next year but if you want one you have to make a deposit of 15.000 pounds now.

Tesla Roadster ready to hit the streets

We’ll we’ve heard a lot about the all-electric sports car, Tesla Roadster. 2 years have passed since the car was announced but on Friday the first commercial version of the car came out of its shipping crate. Finally! The car was brought by Tesla Chairman Elon Musk, who showed it off to employees and reports at the company’s headquarters in California.

As you can see in the photo, the car is black but the first hundred people who will buy it will get a limited-edition dark green. The street-legal car which can reach 200 miles on a charge costs almost $100,000. Tesla will only produce a limited number of cars at first, because of the problems they had with the car’s transmission.

Will Tesla deliver Roadsters with temporary transmissions?

tesla roadster

You might have heard that the Tesla Roadster should launch before the end of the year. Well, unfortunately it looks like the launch ot the wicked-fast electric car will be postponed because the company is having some problems finding a transmission strong enough to handle gear shifts while the car runs at full torque. In the meantime, the company is considering providing vehicles that feature “temporary” transmissions which will defenetly fail after a few thousand miles.
There is already one model built right now, but that one has been built for company chairman Elon Musk and Tesla is currently undecided whether to ship cars with the temporary units and then to replace them when a final transmission becomes available. I’m quite sure that a lot of people would buy this car no matter what transmission will it outfitted with.
