CAR Review: Range Rover Evoque Coupe 2.2D 2011

rangeroverevoque_carzpageBefore we start, we can simply clear on one thing: what kind of car is the Evoque should be? Hot hatch, sedan, SUV? Well, it’s a bit of all three really. The five-door will tend to appeal to buyers looking for you in other small SUVs like the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. But Land Rover sees the three-door coupe or in JLR parlance as a rival for cars like the Audi TT.
It is certainly looks good enough to pull buyers in TT. Is the cabin look like it’s straight out of a concept car to come?

Not quite, but it’s still a great place to be. The coupe has a lower roofline than the five-door, but there’s not a big difference in the back room – although not always in the back is the work of a moment. Both have real room for four, in contrast to the TT, and Peugeot RCZ. The seating position should suit all shapes, and despite the letterbox rear window, visibility is really good. Apart from the huge blind spot through the ear of the elephant mirrors and door pillar created clunky – blame the EU legislation on the mirror mess.

Jaguar cars get the rotary gear selector that from the center console, behind which rises a few buttons, which are to optimize the Terrain Response off-road system, switching between match, asphalt, sand and mud settings to the surface. And cars with the optional Dynamic pack get a different icon, a twisty road graphics. Select this and the dials of bright white on a red switch. Our flagship Dynamic felt safe luxurious and well screwed together, but as with cars like the Jaguar XF, there are a few areas to spoil the illusion – the slight effect of the glove compartment and center console cubby, for example.

CAR Review: Porsche Panamera Diesel 2011

porschepanameradiesel01_carzpageJust months after the start of the Panamera is Porsche’s hybrid gasoline-an alternative maximum efficiency GT: the Panamera diesel. It can, says Porsche, covering 745 miles on his 80-gallon tank. If you have a large bubble, an optional 100-gallon tank is set to be an option.

The Panamera diesel goes on sale from August 2011, and how the hybrid is only available in rear-wheel drive with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic torque converter, not the PDK dual-clutch gearbox, which is offered to all other Panamera.
As the numbers of the new Porsche Panamera, diesel compare with the hybrid? The diesel is a strong struggle: it is 100kg lighter, emits 172g/km CO2 (167g/km or on the optional tires with low rolling resistance) is 159g/km, compared with the hybrid, and returns 43.5mpg, the hybrid is 41.5mpg.

In terms of performance, the 247bhp diesel ft and £ 406 of the hybrid is 375bhp and 428 pounds outclassed ft, while the diesel 6.8sec 0-62mph time and 150 mph top speed through the hybrid is 6.0sec and 167 mph are shaded. Crucially, however, the diesel is far cheaper to play, his £ 62,134 of the hybrid is £ 86,476.

In terms of price, it sits one level above the entry-level V6 petrol engine. The V6 petrol engine numbers: 0-62mph 6.3sec, 162 mph, 31mpg, 296bhp and 295 pounds ft.

SuperCar Review: Aston Martin V8 Vantage S 2011

AstonMartinV8VantageS_carzpageThis is the latest baby Aston – the delicious Vantage S. It should very familiar to you and under the skin nice and Darwinian evolution is the order of the day, too. SuperCar Review: Aston Martin V8 Vantage S 2011.

The now-familiar 4.7-liter V8 has now 430bhp (up 10bhp) and £ 361 m (to £ 15) due to improved breathing and precise ignition. A new exhaust system is lighter and (this is hard to believe) yet fruity in sport mode. Perhaps most important of the Vantage S comes with a brand new seven-speed transmission sport shift, the shorter stacked ratios for greater acceleration, and promises significantly reduced switching times.
Sounds good, what was the cost new Aston Martin Vantage S me?

Prices start at £ 102,500 for the Coupe and £ 110,700 for the roadster – that’s up from £ 93,995 and £ 102,995 respectively. This is a whole bunch of money and Vantage S rivals could be as varied as the Maserati MC Stradale, Porsche and Audi R8 GT3/Turbo. All great cars.

But with the styling tweaks (new carbon front splitter, aggressive treatment threshold pronounced rear spoiler and a carbon diffuser), save a low weight (which are reinforced with lightweight carbon seats and forged wheels), and much revised chassis settings that should Vantage S hold their own.
91AstonMartinV8VantageS_carzpage1So the new 2011 S is a Vantage Aston GT3-style baby? Not quite. It is certainly more aggressive than the standard car and the introduction of the Ascari circuit venue speaks volumes, but that’s a street-optimized package. Having said that the suspension is stiffer and even lower than the N420 in a limited edition, new six-piston front brake hint at some serious potential and suggest wider tires can be on 19-inch wheels that grip and response is also a leap forward . City Car: Fiat 500 Twinair 2011 Review

fiat500twinair_2011_carzpageThe 500 TwinAir is a fascinating prospect. This is the point raised at the Fiat-kitsch review of its iconic 1950s city car to a new level of the 21 Century meaning. The TwinAir engine tested here, according to Fiat, “the greenest gasoline engine in the world,” but it has no batteries, EV fraud or hybrid. It’s just a highly efficient, low-friction, lightweight 875cc gasoline engine with two cylinders and a turbocharger. We expect it to be fast. But we can live with that?
Two cylinders and 875cc? The 500 TwinAir be terribly slow, I suppose? You know, it is not. There are 85bhp to play and more relevant, 107 pounds ft of torque from just 1900rpm, so if you push around in the city you never have a lack of buzz. City Car: Fiat 500 Twinair 2011 Review.

“Hum” is the operative word, as the engine has a distinctive touch – a sort of bubble-level V8 three octaves too high. It is very appealing, full of character and not at all intrusive. I have not driven the twin-pot 1957 Fiat 500, but I bet it sounded a bit like this. And that’s a good thing. It fits the car.
How flexible is the power of the 500 TwinAir, especially from the city?

fiat500twinair-2011_2The car is a function of its transmission – a five-speed manual transmission with very specific conditions. The first two courses are incredibly short, but you must keep the momentum all the time, even resorted to first while rolling up to a roundabout. But third is wonderfully long legs, and you can do most of your city driving without stirring up further. A 70 mph cruise on a dual carriageway is comfortable, but a slight tendency to have reached the fourth. The shifter is rubbery and imprecise, but pole affixed to the columns is fun to hold and to harass. It feels like driving an old car, but in a good way. The maximum speed of the 500 TwinAir is at 107 mph and 0-62mph takes 11sec. But we would say it’s like your clock’s ability to be water resistant to 50 meters – you do not need to test. Has downsizing means a clean engine? City Car: Fiat 500 Twinair 2011 Review.

CarzPage Review: Audi Q5 Quattro with Hybrid 2011

AudiQ5HybridQuattroreview_2011This is the Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro, the first full-hybrid production route from Audi and our first taste coupled to the modular 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine / electric motor, a lithium-ion battery. CarzPage Review: Audi Q5 Quattro with Hybrid 2011.

We’d better get used to it: The same technology will appear in the A6 and A8 hybrids. CAR just the new Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro tested, read so on our first test drive. Like all these electrical Gubbins fit together under the skin of the new Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro? Audi is the front-tried and trusted 2.0-liter TFSI (turbocharged and direct injected) gasoline engine, producing 208bhp and 258 pounds ft. Drive goes to all four wheels, and the transmission is an eight-speed automatic, but without a torque converter. Why not a torque converter? There sat in his place (and between the engine and transmission) is a 33kW (ft and £ 155) electric motor – the disc-shaped motor also acts as a starter and generator.

The 1.3 kW lithium-ion battery pack sitting under the trunk floor (and weighs just 38kg, says Audi) and the combined total output for the hybrid system is 241bhp and £ 354 m. The air conditioning compressor, power brakes and power steering are now electrically powered, too.
How efficient is the new Audi Q5 Hybrid? CarzPage Review: Audi Q5 Quattro with Hybrid 2011.

A combined fuel figure of 40.4mpg, exactly the same as a car equipped 2.0 TDI Q5. Which means diesel drive Europeans are currently ridicule. But the diesel emits 184g/km CO2-Q5, while the Q5 hybrid duck under 160g/km. Basically this car is not in Europe but elsewhere aim, compared with a conventional 2.0 TFSI 32.8mpg and 199g/km Q5, it is of course better – and a tenth quicker to 62mph, despite the c130kg weight gain.
5AudiQ5HybridQuattroreview_carzpageWhat is the new Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro like to drive? Very impressive. They climb stab in the Start button, then stand again, then angry, and then sheepishly remember that this is a hybrid and electric motor, which silently says the gasoline can not be.
