BMW aims high with its new X1

Scheduled for 2010,BMW’s new compact SUV,the X1,showed its face on public German roads, preaparing for the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Based on the 1 Series, having the a Mini Crossman SUV platform and similar dimensions as the Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4,the X1 wants to be a dream came true:a German car with a British soul.x1 bmw

But,with a price tag of 32.000 euros it looks like a bit of a nightmare. We’ll wait and see but it seems to be just another BMW:a great car for a lot of money.

Showing not so many design features, the new car may surprise us with a pre-production concept later this year.

Engines will most likely be borrowed from the 1 Series so a hybrid version is out of the question.bmw x1

Watch out,Mercedes CLS!

Untill now the Mercedes CLS did not have any competition on the 4 door coupe segment. But all German rivals prepare a massive attack: Audi A7, Volkswagen Passat Coupe and Porsche Panamera. The best from the new wave must be the new 8 Series from BMW.The new model has a similar design as the CS Concept and will probabily share the platform with the 7 or even 6 Series.

This car is expected to have the 6 litre,440 HP V12 aut of the 760i or the 4,8 litre V8 from the 750i.

The Series 1 tii…but where’s the engine?

The Series 1 tii concept from BMW was unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show and it is a pure bread racing…car,at least visualy.I am forced to say that because BMW didn’t release any detailes about the engine and transmission.

series 1 tii

The eye catching white and blue paint, the carbon fibre bonnet and the subtle aesthetic changes can only add to the mistique. BMW already announced that the Series 1 tii will be mass produced. Only one thought haunts my mind : how nice would the M3’s 343 HP engine look in this car…

BMW Z4 begins to take shape

BMW Z4

BMW Z4, the small but potent bavarian roadster is heading towards a new generation in 2009. Until then the photographers keep us interested with some cool spy photos.
Of course many details are still to pe perfected but these pictures are showing the basic characteristics of the next Z4, as the front grill, the agressive headlight’s line and the tail lights, although most of the car is covered in camouflage.
About the new gadgets and technologies the new BMW Z4 will have we can’t say anything because its interior hasn’t yet been photographed.
But we await impatiently…

BMW added all-wheel drive to 3-series coupe

p0031530.jpg

Reports are coming in that BMW will be launching an all-wheel-drive 335xi Coupe sometime in the first half of next year. It will be the first time all four wheels will be powered on a 3-Series coupe, and the car will stand as a direct competitor to Audi’s A5 Quattro coupe. Being coupled with BMW’s 300-hp twin-turbo inline-six means the 335xi Coupe can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds for the manual version (0.1 second quicker than the RWD model) and 5.3 seconds for the automatic (0.2 seconds quicker than the RWD model). It turns out the additional traction more than compensates for the extra weight of BMW’s xDrive AWD system. We hear the base price will be $42,600, which we assume is in USD since it falls right above the $40,800 starting price of the 335i (shown) in the U.S.
