We’ll we’ve heard a lot about the all-electric sports car, Tesla Roadster. 2 years have passed since the car was announced but on Friday the first commercial version of the car came out of its shipping crate. Finally! The car was brought by Tesla Chairman Elon Musk, who showed it off to employees and reports at the company’s headquarters in California.

As you can see in the photo, the car is black but the first hundred people who will buy it will get a limited-edition dark green. The street-legal car which can reach 200 miles on a charge costs almost $100,000. Tesla will only produce a limited number of cars at first, because of the problems they had with the car’s transmission.

What a way to commute! If you are under 100 miles from work and plug in each night you may be saving some of that price tag in fuel. Electric motors have fewer moving parts and are cheaply rebuildable, so you’ll save more this way. But who cares, moving silently in this thing must be quite a turn-on!

At $100,000 you’re sure not buying this for economical reasons. But, I can see these becoming popular as a status symbol.
