too bad it probably gets about 5 miles to the gallon. E85 fuel has less energy in it, therefore, means it takes more fuel to make the power. E85 sucks.

1. the “white parked car” problem is insanely easy to fix. they’d probably just put the color change in the key remote, so when you’re looking your car could even flash the color.

2. the much bigger problem is: what do police organizations think? and will they have it banned?

Its a Nissan GTR, its the new Skyline. The color change paint would be a bitch to the cops because you could do something with one color and completely change it the next second when they aren’t looking so you would almost never get caught

As for the electrical thing, I’m sure they will find a way to counteract it, they ARE the Japanese.

To find your white colored parked car would be a simple fix, what with the key-chain remote locking fobs these days… just press the button to lock the doors (lock, not unlock), and for say 15 seconds the color comes on, then shuts off. If I refer to my GFs ‘07 Hyundai Accent as an example, simply tie the paint circuit into the parking lights and the car would not only flash its lights when locked, but it would also flash its color when you press the lock button.

There, wasn’t that SIMPLE?? Problem solved, and for free, in a blog, no less.

First of all, it’s a Skyline GTR 2008 which was revealed this year in the Tokyo Motor show which is open until tomorrow. You can see pictures of it and other motor show cars here:

Skylines were available in the US before this but they are Skyline GTS in Japan and Infinity G35 in other countries.

Back to the paint, reminds me of the Lamborghini cannonball run 2 that changes from white to red.

Unfortunately, charging at high rate will make the expensive batteries deteriorate much faster,
and fast recharging to get another measley 160 km
won’t make trips much more convenient. You’ll have to stop at least every 140 km or so to ensure finding a recharge station – that’s about once every hour or so. Stopping 10 times for a 700 mile day trip seems painfully excessive.

Further, what about the OLED windscreen that is mentioned, but not described or depicted? An attractive vehicle. I suggest that whether or not the touchscreen requires actual touch is immaterial at best, and possibly counterproductive at worst. If you are in a moving car, and reach for the screen, odds are you’re going to touch it anyway, unless you have marvelous motor control. Further, if you have to look over to where you’re touching, so as not to inadvertantly hover over the ‘wrong’ control or setting, thus triggering it, thats not good, either. Finally, some haptic feedback would be nice, which I’ve not heard of in touchscreen systems.

Holy crap. Okay, first off it’s not a “Nissan Nismo”, nor is it a 350z, nor is it a Nismo 350z. Whoever said GT-R is right.

And for the guy that corrected the guy that said “Nissan Nismo”…TRD is not “Toyota Racing Department”, its “Toyota Racing Development”. Not to mention the fact that Mugen doesn’t fall into the tuning division category as Mugen is a seperate entity from Honda altogether. Even though they work very closely, Mugen is not owned by Honda.

Um, there is already color changing paint that won’t electrocute you…You can find it in all kinds of toys, like hot wheels (only requires a temperature change).
So why not do this…then the car will be a different color depending on the temperature, and it could have some neat effects (engine hot, rear cold, sun heating the top, water or snow cooling spots…etc)

biofuels are hardly environmentally friendly, far more energy is used (and more pollution is created) to manufacture, and subsequently burned when using biofuels than standard fossil fuels. Not to mention the ethical issues behind raising the price of food for the hungry because we are making it into fuel.

It’s pretty nice, but it looks more Japanese than French. The first time I saw an Alpine (in the 70’s) I was blown away! What a beautiful car. Let’s hope this has the same impact on a new generation of car lovers.

Alright. Its a 2009 Nissan GT-R. That’s it. Its not a Skyline. It was developed as a reinvented Skyline concept, but the production model drops the Skyline name and keeps on GT-R.

As for the electric shock thing, the author said that the car only needs a small charge to maintain the iron-oxide arrangement. So that shock could be something as insignificant as a shock from static electricity. Still, it is a problem. I wouldn’t be able to drive if I couldn’t hang my arm out the window.

But the concept is clever. And who cares about the police? The less motorists they stop, the better.

cooking oil?…… its not a goddamn diesel. it runs on e85 ethanol….made from corn or some other sugar producing plant material…which as someone else mentioned, it takes more energy to produce ethanol than it saves us in gas. its not earth friendly, its just renewable. when they have an electric version that charges itself by the sun…. THEN it will be special..or if it could run on straight oil from algae, which produces 10 times the oil in an acre than any seed crop. but now… its just an alcohol car… thats not new.

Convertibles with diesel engines are very common these days in Europe. The convertible version of the VW Golf (Rabbit in the US) has been available for years with a diesel engine. The diesel powered TT will probably sell pretty good in the EU.

Most people will drive their cars less than 50 or so miles a day. How many people REALLY drive more than that? This car would be perfect for many people. If you really can’t live without the ability to drive more than 200 KM a day, then it could be a second car.
As for polluting the environment because the electricity comes from coal fired power plants… this would cause less pollution than if you simply drove a gas guzzling car. Besides that, who amongst you want to keep filling the pockets of those rich middle eastern oil nations??? Or the oil companies who keep having more and more record profits at OUR expense?

There is a more interesting concept of what may well be perceived as a next-generation Isetta. It was showcased at the Detroit Auto Show. This three-seater is expected to be safer, more fuel-efficient, more practical as well as more comfortable than that little Smart ForTwo car. Arguably, better looking too. More info at:

What a way to commute! If you are under 100 miles from work and plug in each night you may be saving some of that price tag in fuel. Electric motors have fewer moving parts and are cheaply rebuildable, so you’ll save more this way. But who cares, moving silently in this thing must be quite a turn-on!

Can Mazda take a piece out of VW by producing a turbo eco-diesel/electric hybrid commuter car, preferably a 5 passenger model? Cheaper commuting is what we really need. Battery electric commuter cars need more development,and in the mean time we still have to get to work, the cheaper the better!

With gasoline in the +$4. range and GM and Ford trying desperately to rid themselves of their high fuel consumption vehicles, by shutting down the lines and causing unemployment, the assholes at VW decide to build a lawbreaker that drinks gas like a hotrod pig, with enough horsepower to kill on the streets. North American cities abound with street racer hooligans that seem to kill themselves and anyone who gets on their way at will. Volkswagen, we need your TDIs and appreciate your research even in failing to market the Turbo bio-diesel hybrid electric, but why do you want to kill our youngsters with a gadget like this? You can do better, businesswise, technically and morally.

Curly is dumb or has a vested interest in oil. Huge coal fired power stations cannot be switched off like a light so they run at about 80% at night even though nobody needs that power. I’ve heard reliable report that 3 million cars could be charged overnight in California without adding 1 pound more CO2 to the atmosphere.

Hyundai couldn’t design their way out of a junior art college. This thing looks like a cartoon, It lacks all class, and there is no consistency in design.

It’s a shame. I don’t have a problem with the company, but outside of the last generation of Tib (and perhaps Sonata), what have they got to show for over 20 years in North America?

The company I work for tests autos and I was able to take a close personal look at the new GT-R. All I can say is “I want one.” An amazing looking car and build quality is top notch. Now only if I could have drove it. Guess I should keep dreaming. Way to go Nissan.

The Prius system, with plug in and lighter carbon fiber and polymer composite body parts, in a smaller four seater model size like Yaris can serve as a daily commuter back and forth to train and bus terminals, for Americans today! The OPEC folks are meeting as we speak to “Fix” the price of oil for the American people! This is not a free market system, it is BLACKMAIL! We need to go to Compressed Natural Gas from Alaska and Canada, before the OPEC boys get really greedy and push us into slavery and poverty! Toyota can certainly develop a Compressed Natural Gas engine, and they already have very good euro-style high efficiency diesels developed. We just have to wait for the pressures from OPEC and the encroaching great republican depression to sweep realistic practical change in the U.S.A. We are going to miss you GM, ford and Chrysler, just like we miss the old Hudsons, Nash Ramblers, Willy’s and Studebakers, but the times are a changing and you are not old friends, Adieu!

ya know….thinking about this I have a few questions…it mentions the metal body being a great conductor and all….but what about all the plastic bumpers, trim, mirror housings and such? Not to mention if one of these things is in a wreck I can only imagine the electrical nightmare from the mechanics point of view….or even the body shop trying to get this thing right again….

It is one of my dream cars that I’d love to sit in when I got married.
I’ll put on a short wedding skirt and sit on the door of the car facing out with a big bunch of sunflowers in my hand, and have the photographer take as many pictures as he can.
