This is a significant car on numerous counts. It is the first production diesel-electric hybrid for sale. It is the first time you or I be able to buy a vehicle Hybrid4 PSA. And if Paris is to believe, it can go to revolutionize the way in hybrid cars are sold and put together.

Peugeot Hybrid4: a history lesson

A brief summary of the PSA hybrid solution. The French have long championed diesel, and there are a lot of oh la la was and teeth chattering in the corridors of Peugeot Citroen HQ will include how to turn the world to gasoline-electric hybrids, many of them are terribly expensive, custom-made models with knee high emissions and sky-high price tags.

PSA, with much help from Bosch has come up with what it claims is a much simpler system: Hybrid4. It takes an existing model with an internal combustion engine – Step Forward 3008 – and screw on a relatively low 27kW electrically driven rear axle. Clever electronics controls the interaction between the front engine and rear wheel drive electric motor, with not a single physical connection between the axles.
