The Fisker Karma and 150mpg XH-150 hybrids revealed at Detroit Auto Show

There were a lot of hybrid cars revealed at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. On of those cars is Fisker Automotive plug-in hybrid, which is set to be delivered starting 2009. Maybe you are wondering were does its name come from, well, Fisker is the namesake of Danish-born Henrik Fisker (CEO at BWM and Aston Martin designer). This model can go up to 50 miles before the gas engine kicks in to charge the lithium-ion batteries. It sports a 150mph top speed and it’s able to reach 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds.

150mpg plug-in hybrid XH-150 SUV

Another interesting hybrid form Detroit Auto Show is the 150mpg plug-in hybrid XH-150 SUV from AFS Trinity Power Corporation. Why is so special ? Well, this car is different from the traditional hybrids the XH-150’s powertrain uses ultra-capacitors, not gas. It goes from 0 to 60 in 6.9 seconds with a top highway speed of just 87mph. Anyway, AFS Trinity is more focused on licensing their ultra-capacitor technology than to bring the XH-150 to market.

Why Rustproof Your Vehicle

Whether you live on the coast or inland, in the hills or on a plain, in a city or a cowtown, whether your vehicle is new or used; corrosion is always a very serious concern for you car. This is similar but not identical to undercoating which treats only the underside of the vehicle. The gist: rust proofing is something that every vehicle needs!

Detroit 2008 Preview : 2009 Dodge Ram

With just a few days left until the Detroit Auto Show 2008 will open its gates, The New York Times and AllPar.com have already started writing about the cars that will be presented there. So, let’s do the same. Today, we are telling you all you need to know about the 2009 Dodget Ram. This car, introduced on January 12, 2008, sports revised engines, a new rear suspension setup that feature coil springs fitted to a solid rear axle, a first-class interior and two revolutionary storage systems. It manages to do 0-60 in a impressive seven seconds with a normal V8 available on most models. The power of this Dodge increased, so as it was expected, the gas mileage increased too.

American beauty-Buick Riviera

Some of you might be familiar with the Riviera model from Buick.GM started to produce this car in 1963 and untill 1999 it sold 1.127.261 units.And now a new concept with the same name will be presented at the Detroit Auto Show.As you can see the design is a radical one but has some classic lines resembling older Y-Job(the first concept car in history) and Le Sabre models.

You’ll never guess who helped with the exterior: SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation).I’ve got to admit that the GM-SAIC colaboration really paid of .The body is mainly made of carbon fibre and with its Gullwing doors,this car stands out.The interior is modern,even futuristic.A high-tech lighting system reveals the complexity of the dash board.

Will we see Buick’s rebirth with this car?Will we see more Buick cars on European streets?I’m sure that this car will make GM’s dreams come true so all they have to do is mass produce it.

A new contender in the large saloon class

Hyundai got tiret to be associated with low cost and low expectations cars so it decided to draw up a big saloon called the Genesis.The Korean manufacturer wants to take on the big names: Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Lexus.Having no brand image to follow,the Hyundai designers adopted some bold lines and proposed an excellent design and an even better interior fitted with all the known gadgets offered by the competion.

And then I found out an interesting fact:this car will be powered by the company’s first V8,a 368 HP,4.6 litre menace.There will also be avilable 2 V6 power plants:a 268 HP,3,3 litre and a 290 HP, 3,8 litre.Equiped with these engines the Genesis might be able to compete with the German giants.All that power will be delivered through a 6 speed automatic that I’m sure will make travels much smoother.The Selective Dampers technology used for the suspension is also found on the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes E-Klasse,the Genesis’ direct competitors,along with the Audi A6 and Lexus GS.

This new car will be presented first in the US because Hyundai knows that americans don’t put so much thought in the brand but I have to say that I believe that Europe will chew this car and spit it right up.Europeans have only one thing in mind when buying a car of this stature:tradition and Hyundai won’t bring this to the table.I don’t say it’s not a good car but it won’t matter.
